Getting ready for the biggest day of your life can seem a bit daunting but it’s one of the most important parts of the day (apart from the actual getting married bit of course!) and it’s important to make sure you get the best from your getting ready photos.

Now I’ve been to a fair few getting ready locations, so I like to think I know my stuff when it comes to making the most out of those beautiful bridal prep pics.

Here are my top tips on how to get the best out of your getting ready photos…

Chase that light

Light is so important, in fact it’s probably one of the most important aspects of photography, especially wedding photography. Pick a room with lots of natural light, it will not only mean you get some lovely bright shots, it’s also super flattering.

Ditch the clutter

Think about the space around you. When you first enter room is there is anything you don't want in your photos, remove it. Sounds obvious but it's easy to forget when the nerves kick in. If you can nominate a bridesmaid to be on clutter duty in the morning that always helps keep your photos free of those water bottles or tags from dresses too.

It’s all about the space

You might have just the one bridesmaid or you might have ten, either way it’s important to have enough space for everyone to get ready without being on top of each other. Don’t forget you also have to fit in a hair and make-up artist and maybe a videographer so if you like full length portraits or want gorgeous photos of your dress hanging in the window make sure there’s enough space for your photographer to fit it in the frame. There’s only so much magic we can do in a 2ft by 2ft avocado bathroom.

Accessible accessories

Set out the accessories you’d like photographing. You don’t have to arrange anything, I can do that for you, but if they’re not out I won’t know to get pictures of them.

Moments

The same goes for special moments. I love special moments! If you know there’s something special happening just let me know. There’s nothing worse for me than missing you receiving a special gift from your fiancé because I’m off photographing something else and didn’t know it was happening.

Location, location, location

Don’t like the pattern on your mum’s living room wallpaper? Don’t get ready there! Get a gorgeous Air BnB or treat yourself to beautiful hotel room. It’s a nice wedding day treat, and you’ll get the lovely getting ready photos your beautiful wedding deserves.
